Timothy Welch

In its 18th year, the 2021 Taxi Driver of the Year title was taken out by Access Cab driver Timothy Welch of Des’s Cabs of Mt Barker.

Tim was previously in a very different industry, in banking, but after regularly observing the important role taxi drivers play in the community, he developed an ‘I like the look of that job’ attitude and got involved.

Driving an Access Cab, Tim merited the Award by consistently going above and beyond the call of duty for his customers, many with special needs. Always thinking of others, he clearly loves the daily interaction with his customers and the privilege of helping them to get around, taking his job seriously but accompanying it with a sense of humour.

When accepting his award, Tim thanked the tourism and hospitality industries acknowledging that all three industries rely on each other.

Tim has demonstrated why he deserves to be the Taxi Driver of the Year 2021 and the Mt Barker community can lay claim to him and the good work he does for their community.
