The Taxi Driver of the Year Award is a platform for encouraging drivers to strive for the highest standards of customer service and is designed to help in promoting a positive relationship between the community and the taxi industry.
Adelaide Airport Limited was a significant partner in this program over many years and shares a strong interface with the taxi industry through the airport rank, which is critical in providing first impressions for visitors and in ensuring the local community is serviced to a high standard.
Passengers are encouraged to nominate taxi drivers who provide customer service that stands out from the crowd, keeping in mind the following award criteria:
- Knowledge and skills
- Courtesy and helpfulness
- Driver and vehicle presentation
- Safety and comfort
- Service to passengers with special needs
Special comments are asked for on the nomination page and those comments are taken into account by a panel of community leaders. The drivers who receive the best, most appropriate comments are then personally interviewed by the judging panel. Questions at this interview normally relate to the taxi industry.
The winner is announced at the prestigious SA Tourism Awards held annually in November.
